Red Cross offering shelter assistance to storm victims

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Monday's storms that knocked down trees and power lines left more than 4.600 customers of the Holland Board of Public Works without electricity.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, more than 1,700 utility customers of HBPW were still without power, with service to customers on Pine St. expected to take at least days to restore because of the clean-up of storm debris.

HBPW is trying to notify its customers in need of emergency shelter and/or food that they can call the American Red Cross of Ottawa County at (616) 396-6545

Grand Rapids, MI- In an effort to assist in the relief efforts for those affected by devastating tornadoes and floods that have ravaged the country this spring, Culver’s restaurants will sponsor a “Day of Giving.” Participating restaurants nationwide, including the Grand Rapids area restaurants listed below, will dedicate 10% of sales on Tuesday, June 14th to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Fall storms bring several school closings

Holland, MI - Violent winds and rain are expected to reach the West Michigan area shortly but many schools, including Holland Public, have already closed in anticipation of the foul weather.

Conditions simlilar to storms that struck the area in the fall of 1998 are expected to last through Wednesday evening with the heaviest winds occuring Wednesday afternoon.
