The annual Labor Day Boardwalk will be held on Monday, September 3, 2012 at 8:30am and begins at Heinz Waterfront Walkway.  The route will lead to Windmill Island where an all-u-can eat pancake breakfast will be prepared.  The pancake breakfast is a fundraiser for the Recreation Division's Sal Perez Scholarship fund. $5/Adult; $3/Youth ages 3-12.

Redskins quarterback and Holland Christian High School graduate Kirk Cousins will help raise money for People Helping People at Crown (Honda-Buick-Cadillac-Mazda) Motors on Tuesday, July 10th at 6:30pm.

The Father & Son Pig Out costs $5 a ticket, but will include autographs and photos with Kirk, ice cream, a father/son contest, and great prizes. 100% of the proceeds will go to People Helping People. There is a limited number of tickets, so get them immediately.

Downtown to Host 3rd Annual Zeeland Zoom 5K

3nd Annual Zeeland Zoom 5k Foot Race & Walk, Tuesday, June 26 at 7pm.

Come out and enjoy this exciting Tuesday night event downtown Zeeland! We've had a lot of fun the past couple years with approximately 800 participants, each year, ZOOMING their way through the streets of Zeeland! A great event for competitors and families alike! Enjoy running through Zeeland's historic downtown and neighborhoods.
 
The Zeeland Zoom will take runners on a fast 3.1 mile adventure through historic downtown Zeeland. The Zeeland Zoom is professionally timed by Classic Race Management of Grand Rapids; runners will be provided a time chip to wear on the course which will be tracked by a ChronoTrack mat to mat Start and Finish Line.

After race refreshments for Zoomers and an Awards Ceremony will take place on Main Street between Church and Elm following the event.

Hope College Ushers in New Era in Tennis With Stadium Facility

Young players who represent the future of tennis are ushering in a new era as they inaugurate the new VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts at Hope College this month.

Just hours after the last striping dried on Monday, June 4, the courts, which are part of the Hope College Tennis Complex at the Ekdal J. Buys athletic fields, began hosting the local qualifier camp for high-school-level, district United States Tennis Association (USTA) competition.  The courts’ main workout will begin on Monday, June 11, with the start of the annual summer Hope College Tennis Academy, which across its nine-week run will be attended by some 450 players spanning kindergarten through 12th grade.

Holland Community Aquatic Center Serving as an Official Host Location

Holland, MI (June 14, 2012) - On Thursday, June 14th, 2012, thousands of kids and adults at aquatics facilities around the globe will unite to set a new global record for The World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). Holland Community Aquatic Center is an official Host Location for the 2012 WLSL record-setting event, taking place at 11:00 a.m. EST.

The inaugural WLSL event established the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson ever conducted in 2010 to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to prevent drowning. Last year's WLSL event grew more than 400% with 20,000+ participants representing 13 countries around the globe and 45 states in the US.

A-G   6:00 - 6:30 p.m.

H-N   6:30 - 7:00 p.m.

O-U   7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

V-Z   7:30 - 8:00 p.m.

A physical card needs to be completed by your parent/guardian and turned into your athletic office prior to this event.

Jorge Capestany Featured on Tennis Channel Television Program

HOLLAND – Jorge Capestany, manager of the DeWitt Tennis Center at Hope College, is the featured instructor in three episodes premiering on the Tennis Channel through “On Court with USPTA,” the cable television show produced by the United States Professional Tennis Association.

Capestany, who is a USPTA Master Professional, teaches how to counter opponents’ strategies in “How to Beat the Moonballer,” scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at noon, and “How to Beat the Aggressive Baseliner,” scheduled for Saturday, May 19, at noon.  The third episode, “Secrets to Better Doubles,” will be shown in November.

The three episodes are among the eight featuring professionals selected from across USPTA’s membership that the association is producing for the Tennis Channel for 2012, four total in the spring and four in the fall.  The USPTA has more than 15,000 members worldwide.
