HOLLAND – On Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8, Hope College will host its 41st annual Model United Nations conference for high school students.

More than 700 students and faculty from the greater Midwest will compete in the various simulations.

Hope College Students Help Others Prepare Tax Returns

                        HOLLAND – Just because tax season is unavoidable doesn’t mean it has to be awful.

                        And where better to demonstrate that idea than a place with “Hope” in its name?

                        Hope College accounting students are helping area residents prepare their taxes and file electronically through the IRS-sponsored VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program, serving others and gaining hands-on experience in their chosen field at the same time.  They are working in a computer laboratory in the college’s Martha Miller Center for Global Communication every Saturday through Apr

Last week at the Financial Services Committee organizational meeting, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) was nominated Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade (MPT).  MPT is one of five subcommittees of the prestigious Financial Services Committee.  As Vice Chair, Congressman Huizenga will assist Subcommittee Chairman John Campbell (CA-45) in running committee hearings and essential committee operations.   

"I am honored to be named Vice Chair of the Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee.  I look forward to working with both Chairman Jeb Hensarling and Subcommittee Chairman John Campbell to ensure the proper oversight of the Federal Reserve and to continue to monitor the impact of the euro zone's distress and its effects on the U.S.

Price to hold in-district office hours

State Rep. Amanda Price will sponsor in-district office hours in Grand Haven on Friday, Sept. 21, to meet with local residents and discuss issues of interest or concern.

Price will be at Coffee Grounds, located at 41 Washington Ave. from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Residents are welcome to stop by as their schedules allow during that time, and appointments are not necessary.
