Goodwill Industries of West Michigan President and CEO Richard J. Carlson was appointed by Michigan Gov. Rick Synder to serve on the Commission on Disability Concerns on April 14.

The commission advocates on behalf of persons with disabilities through information and technical assistance, disability rights training, and by promoting disability awareness.

Carlson, of Muskegon, has over 30 years of experience with Goodwill Industries of West Michigan and has served the last 19 years as president and CEO. He replaces Dana Parker.

Along with Carlson, Disability Network of Mid-Michigan Executive Director Sara Grivetti of Midland was also appointed.

“These individuals will serve as strong advocates for our citizens with disabilities,” Synder said.

“I welcome this opportunity to expand my service to individuals and families with disabilities across the state, as well as to more broadly represent disability issues and interests here in West Michigan,” Carlson said.

Appointees serve four-year terms expiring November 30, 2010, and are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

The mission of Goodwill Industries of West Michigan, Inc. is to provide work opportunities and
skill development for people with barriers to employment.
