Bria (Ebels) DeBoer is taking over coaching duties for the Zeeland varsity girls' basketball team.  She succeeds Bob Rilley who stepped down this spring after 20 years of coaching the Chix.

"We are thrilled to have Bria take on the position," Zeeland East Athletic Director Tim Ritsema said. "She will make a very seamless transition afer serving here as our freshmen and JV basketball coach.  The girls like her and respect her. Bria will continue the quality program established by Bob Rilley."

DeBoer brings a wealth of basketball experience to the position.  She was a standout cager for the Hope College women's team from 2002 through 2006 and served two years as the team's captain, including Hope's national championship team of 2006.  DeBoer was named Defense Player of the Year in 2006; was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player the same year; and was featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" edition in April, 2006.

DeBoer was hired as a special education teacher for Zeeland East in 2007.  She worked as East's varsity volleyball assistant coach in 2007-08, then moved to freshmen girls' basketball coach for three years.  This school year, DeBoer served as East's JV girls' basketball coach.
