Holland residents worry about late night 'random' attacks

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - The latest in a string of assaults and armed robberies has residents in a Holland neighborhood on edge.

Since late August, there have been four street muggings in a concentrated area from 16th to 21st street, centering on Columbia Avenue.

So far, all of the attacks have been from an armed, masked attacker. They happened between midnight and 4:00 a.m.

"I moved to Holland originally because I found it safe," said area resident Sharon Woodward. "This last incident has made me a little more fearful of walking around at night."

Holland Police Detective Al Rios says police have made progress with their investigation. He says the victims from each incident were innocent pedestrians, selected at random.

"That's what makes [these incidents] all the more dangerous," Rios said. "They're basically going after anyone... me or you for example."
