Holland's beauty to be judged on national stage

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- The flowers are in bloom, the city is sparkling clean, and now Holland is ready to show its beauty on the national stage.

The "America in Bloom" contest has started, and judges will evaluate the city Wednesday.

Holland is competing against cities its size from across the country.

The event encourages communities to improve the beautification of their parks, vacant lots, and ditches; reduce carbon footprints all over the city; plant new trees, develop floral displays, improve the city landscape, and preserve the heritage of the city.

This is Holland's second year in the event.
Last year, the city took first place in two categories.
