Holland, Mich. (WZZM) -- A revitalization project seven years in the making was celebrated Tuesday in Holland.
The non-profit housing service Dwelling Place opened their first apartment complex in the Tulip City. Midtown Village is the transformation of the former EE Fell Junior High School, a building that hadn't been in use for more than 20 years.
The 30 units, located in a neighborhood near 16th street, are available for people over the age of 55.
Tuesday, an open house was held for the $5.9 million dollar renovation project. City leaders hope the opening has a positive affect in the area.
"We've had nothing but positive comments," said Dwelling Place CEO David Sturtevant. "From neighbors, from city officials, from bankers and business people about the positive outcome that they've seen in this block."
