HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Officials in Holland are celebrating another award and title for the city.
The city entered into the America in Bloom competition over the summer. The competition pitted cities from across the country against each other, based on eight categories that project the city's 'beauty.'
Holland was a big winner. The city scored high marks in all categories including floral displays, landscaped areas, urban forestry and community involvement.
Out of 22 cities, Holland was awarded first place in the Tidiness category. The city also won out overall beauty in its size bracket: A city with a population of 25,000 to 50,000.
The campaign on the Lakeshore was called "Holland in Bloom" and headed up by City Greenhouse Operator Shelly DeVries and Parks Supervisor Steve Zwiep.
"It gets us fired up that all our hard work was recognized on a national scale," said Zwiep. "We can take pride in this community."
