HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- We're getting an update on a major fundraising effort to expand the Salvation Army in Holland.

Representatives announced Wednesday that the "Do the Most Good" campaign has raised $1 million out of the $1.5 million dollars needed.

The money will help pay for a larger building and new services.

Salvation Army leaders say the $4-million project is aimed at helping the most vulnerable in the community.

"This building is not going to be expanded in terms of office space but rather service space and primarily directed toward children and families (with) ways to bring people together that have needs," said Richard Chambers, chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

Salvation Army leaders say they will begin construction as soon as they collect the half-a-million dollars needed.

They're hopeful that will be in the next few months.
