CultureWorks hosting discussion on art responding to #blacklivesmatter

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- CultureWorks in Holland is hosting art the responds to the #blacklivesmatter movement.

Tori Pelz from CultureWorks says the organization focuses on culturally-relevant art and culture experiences for youth from all backgrounds. She said this show uses art to address a topic that can be difficult to talk about.

The exhibit feature pieces from St. Louis, Detroit, and New York City, where the #blacklivesmatter movement has been especially active. Pelz said some of the pieces celebrate black lives and others witness to injustice. Art can be a bridge between different perspectives, she said.

Friday night, CultureWorks is holding a closing reception for the show. It includes a panel discussion with local African-American scholars and artists who will lend cultural and historical perspective, Pelz said.

CultureWorks is at 710 Chicago Drive, at the intersection of Chicago and Waverly. Learn more at this link.
