LANSING, Mich.ā€” More than 100 prospective Michigan State troopers are officially in training.

The 126th Trooper Recruit School began Jan. 5.  For the next 20 weeks, 115 recruits will be trained in firearms, water safety, defensive tactics, patrol techniques, report writing, ethics, first aid, criminal law, crime scene processing and precision driving.  Recruits are only allowed to leave the MS Training Academy from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.  Those who successfully complete the class will graduate May 30. 

The 126th Trooper Recruit School includes:

  • Ryan Dangl of Grand Rapids
  • Joshua Decker of Grand Rapids
  • Kevin Vander Laan of Grand Rapids
  • Warren Webster of Grand Rapids
  • Dennis Nauta of Greenville
  • Lena Wileczek of Holland
  • Leanne de Waal Malefyt of Hudsonville
  • Blair Smallbone of Muskegon
  • William Pitsch of Rockford

Another trooper recruit school is expected to begin in June 2014. Interested prospective recruits should visit the Michigan State Police website for more information on how to apply.
