New class of Michigan State Troopers reports for duty

LANSING, Mich.--  A new class of Michigan State Police troopers is beginning work in West Michigan.

Graduates of the 125th Trooper Recruit School began reporting to their posts Monday.   The class graduated Friday.  Governor Rick Snyder delivered the keynote address during the ceremony.

“We’re so proud of the men and women devoting their careers to public safety,” Snyder said. “Today’s graduates will play a critical role in making our communities and neighborhoods safer for our families. Our Michigan State Police are an elite force. We thank our newest troopers for their commitment, dedication and professionalism in service to all Michiganders.”

The 125th Trooper Recruit School began on May 12 with 80 prospective troopers.  After 21 weeks of training and testing, 65 recruits made it to graduation.  Of those graduates, 64 have attended college, 14 have served in the U.S. military and 12 have prior law enforcement experience.  

The new troopers assigned to the Jackson Post include Tpr. Andrew Gerig of Lowell and Tpr. Casey Omiljan of Walker.  The MSP Lansing Post will get  Tpr. Luke Beimers of Belmont and Tpr. Joshua Ellis of Grand Rapids. Two West Michigan natives are assigned to MSP's metro post: Tpr. Mark Carroll of Ludington and Tpr. Roger Craig of Greenville. Tpr. Trevor Beck of Muskegon is assigned to the Caro post, Tprs. Jenna Saarela of Saugatuck and Evan Zapolski of Grand Rapids go to the Tri-City post, Tpr. Elizabeth Bourgeois of Kalamazoo is assigned to the Coldwater post, Tpr. Holly Tetro of Jenison will report to the Niles post and Tpr. Daniel Mehari of Grand Rapids is assigned to the Paw Paw post.  The Rockford post will get three West Michigan natives- Tpr. Eric Brogger of Allegan, Tpr. Brandon Golden of Wyoming and Tpr. Lucas Van't Hof of Holland.
