Parent Workshop: Puberty, Setting the Table for Healthy Transitions

Puberty, Pimples, Periods…Oh My!! Join us for a topic that will usually generate a lot of giggles…Puberty. The Ottawa County Health Department and Pathways, MI are hosting this workshop January 26th from 6:30 – 8pm at the Health Department office in Holland. 

The event is for parents and caretakers alike who are looking to add to their parenting tool box.  Learn the developmental stages of puberty along with helpful hints on how to engage in a conversation about puberty and healthy sexuality as well as tips on how to answer those tough questions that sometimes make us squirm. 

This presentation will include a take home parent pack with the information presented.

Saint Mary's School to Display Photos of Community Service for Catholic Schools Week

SPRING LAKE, Mich., Jan. 3, 2012 - In observance of the 2012 "Catholic Schools Week," the Parent-Teacher organization at Saint Mary's Parish School is planning to display photo boards in the church's gathering space to highlight the many community service projects that children at the school participate in throughout the year.

Catholic Schools Week runs January 29 through February 5.  Saint Mary's Parish School is located at 421 east Exchange Street in Spring Lake.

Another display will feature various pictures of general school life and feature things like children participating in sporting events, color days, spirit days, guest speakers, dances, the Jingle Bell Parade, Parade of Saints, class celebrations and more.

Santa even has a special treat for each child to enjoy. There is no charge to visit Santa, but don’t forget to bring your camera!

Annual holiday Open House marks beginning of Holland holiday season

 


Downtown Holland will mark the beginning of the holiday season with their annual Holiday Open House event this Saturday, November 19 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  In addition to the Holiday Open House, a variety of fun holiday happenings for the entire family will take place in Downtown Holland from November to January.
 
During the Holiday Open House, visitors are invited to stroll the decorated streets filled with singing carolers, roasting chestnuts, and one-of-a-kind shops, galleries, boutiques and restaurants all offering holiday refreshments and free gift-wrapping on all purchases. With close to 50 different merchants participating, you are almost certain to spot Santa picking up a few special items for those on his “nice” list while he hands out candy canes.

If you are interested in participating in the 2011 Parade of Lights in Downtown Holland, please read the following information carefully and complete the form below. The entry fee for businesses to enter the parade is $25. Families, schools, and non-profit organizations are exempt from the entry fee. Payment is required by credit card when you submit your entry form. (Payments will process immediately. No refunds). If you are interested in paying by cash or check, please e-mail paradeoflights@cityofholland.com or call 616.796.1210 to have an application e-mailed or mailed to you.

Are you aware of the latest drug trends among youth?  Are you familiar with the emerging substances like spice, K2 or bath salts?  The Ottawa County Health Department and Pathways, MI are hosting a presentation on “Emerging Drug Trends” November 3 from 6:30 - 8 pm at the Health Department Office in Holland.  The event will discuss current youth drug trends, tips on how to talk to your kids about drugs, and treatment resources.
