The Zeeland Festivals Board is pleased to announce the hiring of Carla Flanders, owner of CMF Marketing as the Director of Zeeland’s Pumpkinfest 2013. CMF Marketing is currently involved with the Holland/Zeeland Community Labor Day Truck Parade, Lakeshore Art Festival, Seaway Run Expo, Muskegon Retail Incubator, and the Zeeland Pumpkinfest. In addition, CMF Marketing has experience coordinating large-scale events including the UICA Art Prize opening, Tulip Time Festival, National Food Carving Competition, Farmers Market Salsa Showdown, concerts and more.

Ottawa County’s Pigeon Creek Enjoys Winter Blast

Our recent blast of lake effect snow is putting us back into an active winter sports season at Pigeon Creek Park in Holland.  This is especially good news considering the investments made at the park this fall.  The Lodge underwent a complete renovation, increasing capacity, functionality as well as ascetics.  Ski renters will enjoy well maintained and new equipment with 80 sets of skis and poles plus 100 pairs of boots added to the stock for the season.

The park boasts over 10 miles trails for hiking, snowshoeing and skiing.

Hope Hosts Young Artists Piano Competition on January 26

HOLLAND – The department of music at Hope College will present performances by 13 finalists during the fourth annual Hope College Young Artists Piano Competition on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The competition will run from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m., with a small reception following.

Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Audience members may stay for all or only a portion of the competition.

The Young Artists Piano Competition is open to talented high school pianists ages 13 through 18 living in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The finalists have been selected from a preliminary recording round to compete for cash awards and scholarships.

Hope College's Civil Rights Celebration - Jan. 21-26

                        HOLLAND – A variety of activities have been scheduled at Hope College on Monday-Saturday, Jan. 21-26, in conjunction with the college’s annual Civil Rights Celebration Week.

The week honors all persons and groups who have worked toward the advancement of civil rights and social justice, and has been organized in conjunction with the national commemoration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 21.  Events will include screenings of the film “The Great Debaters,” the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Luncheon, a special Chapel service and the Civil Rights Commemorative March.

The public is invited.  Admission to all of the events except for the film is free, although advance registration is required for the luncheon.

The week will open with the college’s Chapel service on Monday Jan.
