Haveman plans in-district meetings to listen to residents

Hudsonville, Mich. - State Rep. Joe Haveman, R-Holland, has set up in-district office hours to meet with residents and listen to their ideas and suggestions regarding state and local issues.

"Listening to the people in my community and hearing what solutions they may have for some of the issues we are facing in Michigan is one of the vital parts of my job as a lawmaker," said Haveman. "I always look forward to meeting with residents, and I hope that plenty of folks are able to join me for these office hours."

Haveman will be available to talk with residents on Friday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. He will be at the Blendon Township Hall, located at 7161 72nd Ave. in Hudsonville.

Next month Haveman will host in-district office hours on Monday, April 11 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. These will take place at the Mr. Burger restaurant located at 5835 Balsam Drive in Hudsonville. No appointment is necessary for either time or location.

The Holland Area has been developed around the local watershed since its conception. We rely on the watershed for transportation, agriculture, industry and recreation. Despite how much you use this resource how much do you know about it?

On April 16th at Kollen Park from 9 A.M. to noon you will have a chance to learn all about the Macatawa watershed. Local organizations will be present to offer information on all aspects of how we interact with the watershed. Learn about what lives in the watershed, how humans are affecting it, how we use it in daily life and for the adventurous learn about recreational activities on the water.

Take a break from learning about the animals of the watershed to chat with the local fire department and get an up-close look at a fire truck.

Holland In Bloom invites community to informational presentation

Holland, Michigan- The Holland in Bloom committee invites the community to a special informational presentation of the America In Bloom Competition and the Holland In Bloom Program. The event will be on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Holland Area Arts Council beginning at 6:30pm. At this gathering a brief overview of Holland In Bloom will be presented along with a short video of America In Bloom. In addition, information on upcoming Holland In Bloom events and how to get involved will be discussed. The evening will close with a question and answer period. CityFlats Hotel Job Fair on Mar. 14th

CityFlats Hotel will be holding a job fair on Monday, March 14 at the franchise's downtown Holland location at 61 East 7th St. Hotel administrators will be available to meet with potential candidates between 9:00am and 12:00pm and between 1:00pm and 4:00pm in the hotel's lobby.

Job fair attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and should be prepared to fill out an application. Applicants who meet position requirements will be contacted after the job fair to schedule interviews.

National Collegiate Hockey Tournament (ACHA)

National  Collegiate Hockey Tournament (ACHA)

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division III national tournament is coming to Holland from March 9-12. Sixteen teams will be competing on the rinks of The Edge, including Hope's Flying Dutchmen. The pairings have been announced.

Here is Hope's schedule for pool play:
Wednesday March 9 – Hope vs. Florida Atlantic University, 7 p.m.
Thursday March 10 - Hope vs. Robert Morris University, 7 p.m.
Friday March 11 - Hope vs. University of Colorado, 5:15 p.m.
