My Town: Manpower job fair in Holland May 13

ZEELAND, Mich.--  Job hunters looking for a position in manufacturing can check out more than 120 opportunities Tuesday in Holland.

Manpower in Zeeland is organizing the job fair, which will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express on Felch Street.  Positions range from entry level to skilled trades, and include temporary, hire and direct hire opportunities.

My Town Holland: Oscar Mayer Wienermobile takes on Tulip Time

HOLLAND, Mich.—The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is rolling through West Michigan.

The famous vehicle will be rolling down the road during the Tulip Time Muziekparade Saturday, May 10.  The Weinermobile will remain at the festival from 12:45 pm. To 4 p.m., as two Oscar Mayer “hotdoggers” pose for pictures and hand out wiener whistles, stickers and coupons.

WZZM 13 will also be among the more than 4,000 participants in the Muziekparade, which is a culmination of the week long Tulip Time festival.  Michigan’s longest procession kicks off at 8th and Columbia at 2 p.m.

HOLLAND, Mich. ­– Bagger Dave’s, a unique, full-service, ultra-casual restaurant and full bar, will host a benefit to help the Van Houten children who recently suffered the unexpected loss of their father, Ben Van Houten.

The event is planned for 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at the restaurant’s Holland location, 3333 West Shore Drive.

Bagger Dave’s, known for its fresh, never frozen approach to food and prime rib recipe burgers, will donate 15 percent of the day’s sales to the Van Houten Children's Trust that has been established for the children.

My Town: Culver's to donate a portion of sales to Honor Flight

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A group of local restaurants are joining the effort to ensure veterans get a chance to see their war memorials in our nation’s capitol.

Seven area Culver’s restaurants will host fundraisers Tuesday, May 20 for the Honor Flight Network, a nonprofit group that transports veterans to the national monuments.  Ten percent of sales on May 20 will go toward the effort.

“We’re happy for the opportunity to support the Honor Flight network and we hope our guests will too,” says Craig Culver, co-founder of the restaurant chain. “Men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our freedom are true heroes,” added Culver.

HOLLAND, Mich.—A Dutch tradition will take over Holland’s streets starting this weekend.

Tulip Time 2014 is May 3-10.  Thousands of people from across the nation are expected to descend on Holland to check out the 6 million tulips on display.  This year’s festival also includes traditional Dutch dancing, parades, the Tulip Time Run, an art and craft fair, quilt show, fireworks, live performances and art classes.  For the entire schedule, visit the Tulip Time festival website here.

My Town: Outdoor Farmer's Market to feature more than 50 vendors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— The Outdoor Farmer’s Market in downtown Grand Rapids will open for its second season this weekend.

Grand Rapids Downtown Market says the new season of outdoor shopping will start Saturday May 3.  The outdoor market will be open every Saturday in May, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market will host its inaugural “Chefs at The Market” demonstration at 10 a.m.  A chef will showcase simple recipes you can follow using food available at the market.  This weekend’s demonstration will feature rhubarb.

Inside the market, visitors can take part in a free yoga session and enjoy live jazz music by Hugh DeWitt.  At noon, shoppers can also enjoy microgreens grown in the market’s greenhouse as part of a $5 tasting bar.
