MAX Offers Free Monthly Classes on How to Use the Bus System

The Macatawa Area Express (MAX) transit system will begin offering free Travel Training classes on a regular basis to residents who are interested in learning how to use the fixed bus route system.
“One of the biggest barriers to people using or even trying the bus service is the fear of the unknown,” says Sherri Cadeaux, MAX marketing and customer service manager.  “This class will familiarize them the fixed routes, teach them how to plan trips, and review general procedures and rules so that they’re comfortable and confident riding the MAX.”
In the one-hour class, participants will learn destinations served by the fixed routes, reading schedules, planning trips, making transfers, paying fares or using bus passes, and boarding and de-boarding. The class also includes general information about the transit system, and personal travel safety tips.  Classes will be held at:

  • 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012
  • 4-5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012
  • 6-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2013
  • 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013

The Travel Training class is free, but class size is limited to 20, and advance registration is required by calling MAX Customer Service at (616) 355-1010 a week prior to the scheduled class.  All classes will be held at the MAX Administration Offices at the Padnos Center at 171 Lincoln Ave.   Free parking is available at the Padnos parking lot on 8th St. behind the depot, or at city lot at 7th & Columbia Ave.

For information about the Travel Training class, persons also may call MAX Customer Service at (616) 355-1010 or visit www.catchamax.org.
