My Town: Seedlings for sale by Ottawa Conservation District

Plan ahead for spring while helping the environment.

The Ottawa Conservation District's semi-annual tree seedling fundraiser is underway. The order pick up date is set for Arbor Day-- Friday, April 24, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Reenders Blueberry Farm, 10012 West Olive Road (US-31) in West Olive.

This is a pre-order, pre-pay sale, so please submit orders with payments by Friday April 3.  The Ottawa Conservation District can now accept credit cards if you come to the office or call to provide the card information.

The organization offers a wide variety of trees native to Michigan for use in landscaping, reforestation, or windbreaks.  This a great way to support the Ottawa Conservation District while it helps landowners in conserving, maintaining and improving the natural resources of Ottawa County.

Order forms for the fundraiser and descriptions of the trees are available on www.ottawacd.org.  As they do every year, the Ottawa Conservation District offer some old favorites like the white pine and sugar maple, as well as different species like the native black gum, a beautiful landscape tree that provides fruit for many birds.  There may be some species still available for purchase the day of pickup, so feel free to come shop around.  You can also request to be added to the organization's mailing list through its website.  For more information, call (616) 842-5852, extension 122.
