Holland In Bloom Announces Bloomin’ Beautiful Best Front Yard Contest and Spring Yard Recognition

April 12, 2011. Holland, Michigan. Holland in Bloom announces Bloomin’ Beautiful - Best Front Yard Contest. In this competition, neighbors and friends can nominate yards to be their favorite choice for the “Bloomin’ Beautiful - Best Front Yard” in Holland. Winners will be announced via the Holland in Bloom website (www.hollandinbloom.org) and the Holland In Bloom Facebook page on the first of June, July and August. The nomination process will begin May 7, 2011. Nomination forms and a complete list of criteria can be found online at www.hollandinbloom.org/competitions.html and at various downtown business locations. Deadline for nominations will be the 27th of each month. The first deadline for June nominations is May 27, 2011.

Earth Day celebration planned at Tree Huggers

News Release: 

Tree Huggers is planning an exciting Earth Day celebration April 22nd -23rd. We are hosting a recycling event with prizes, kids activities throughout the two days in addition to informational workshops taught by local experts. Friday night from 5-8 p.m. we are having a vegetarian/vegan potluck. We are encouraging the community to bring a dish to pass and their own reusable place settings. New Holland Brewing Company will be here and live entertainment will be provided by The Vandrie and special guests. Saturday at 6:00 p.m. we will be having a showing of the documentary "Tapped" which addresses the issues of bottled water.

Tree Huggers is pleased to announce that we have added a bulk refill station to our ever growing Earth Friendly product line. Customers can come in with their own containers to purchase a variety of bulk items such as shampoo, massage oil, all purpose cleaner, air fresheners and so much more. Tree Huggers has over 30 bulk items in the store customers can fill and most items are organic and locally made. The idea behind the bulk station is to encourage a waste free lifestyle and help reduce plastic and glass waste. Customers pay by the ounce and we have donated bottles for customers who do not have any on hand. Soon we hope to offer flour, rice, beans and sugar. All baking items will be organic and most locally harvested.

Tree Huggers is located at the Westshore Mall, 12331 James Street in Holland.

In celebration of Earth Day, CityFlats Hotel in downtown Holland is hosting a community-wide electronics recycling drive from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, April 23, in the CityFlats parking lot. Tuesday, April 12 5:00pm - 7:00pm Art Van Furniture in Holland, MI Come out to our first ever Volunteer Recruitment Party on April 12, 2011 from 5-7pm.

Volunteers can register to work at events throughout the festival week! Event coodinators will be on hand to answer questions and give you information about thier particular event.

Each volunteer will recieve a prize upon registration. The first 100 volunteers to sign up will be entered into the drawing for a brand new patio set donated by Art Van!

There will be food, music, entertainment, dutch dancers and much more!

Holland Celebrates National Arbor Day at Van Raalte Farm

Holland area homeschoolers, from LIFE Homeschool Group will help plant a tree to celebrate National Arbor Day on Friday, April 29 at Van Raalte Farm at 10am, 1076 E. 16th St. Holland, Michigan. The Holland Garden Club and the city of Holland’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department are organizing the tree planting celebration.  The city of Holland will also receive the 31st Annual Tree City USA Award.

Homeschoolers will take turns shoveling the soil to help plant the new tree. There will also be a Holland in Bloom children’s bird seed activity. Holland in Bloom is part of a nation wide beautification competition taking place this spring and summer in Holland.

Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Trees not only provide beauty in our landscape, they improve the air we breathe, improve water quality, attract wildlife and conserve energy.

Holland In Bloom invites community to informational presentation

Holland, Michigan- The Holland in Bloom committee invites the community to a special informational presentation of the America In Bloom Competition and the Holland In Bloom Program. The event will be on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Holland Area Arts Council beginning at 6:30pm. At this gathering a brief overview of Holland In Bloom will be presented along with a short video of America In Bloom. In addition, information on upcoming Holland In Bloom events and how to get involved will be discussed. The evening will close with a question and answer period.
