Press Release:

Ottawa County, Michigan— The Ottawa County Health Department is offering their annual phonebook recycling event during the month of June.  A self-serve container will be at the Holland office of the Health Department, located at 12251 James Street from June 1st through June 30th.  The telephone books collected will be recycled into building insulation.

Experts estimate that recycling one ton of paper conserves:
-7,000 gallons of water,
-380 gallons of oil,
-Enough energy to power an average American home for five months,
-And 17 mature trees!

The department also offers recycling programs that accept paper, plastic, glass and other recyclables for an annual membership fee.  For no charge, the waste program accepts hazardous household products at its resource recovery centers.  For more information about these programs, visit www.miOttawa.org/Health and click on “Waste Disposal.” The public can also call 616-393-5645 for questions and more information.
