Holland Department of Public Safety conducts sex offender registry sweep | Crime
During the last month, the Holland Department of Public Safety has made a concentrated effort to conduct verification checks of registered sex offenders who reside in the City of Holland. These verification checks are typically conducted by the Holland Department of Public Safety bi-annually to verify offenders are in compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Act and are currently residing where they are registered.
Checks were done on 166 offenders who show a Holland City address by officers from the Holland Department of Public Safety. Of those, 149 individuals were found to be in compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Act. Further investigation was conducted into those cases where the offender was not in compliance.
The Holland Department of Public Safety is seeking charges on 9 individuals for failing to change address or failing to verify their address. An additional 3 individuals already have outstanding warrants for SOR violations and 4 individuals were found to be currently incarcerated
Individuals required to register must verify their address with in the first 15 days of each quarter of the year and must notify their local law enforcement agency within 10 days of any change of address.
The Holland Police Department takes the enforcement of the Sex Offender Registration Act seriously. We will continue to enforce these laws to ensure that all offenders on the registration list within the City of Holland are in compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Act.
