News Release:

A public reception honoring Superintendent Gary L. Feenstra's 18 years of service to Zeeland Public Schools is set for Tuesday, May 24, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Zeeland West High School cafeteria. Refreshments will be served. The event provides an opportunity for parents, students and citizens to meet with Gary prior to his retirement.

"I can say with all honesty that this job has been the most wonderful work experience of my life," Feenstra said when announcing his retirement last December.

Feenstra, 60, was hired as superintendent in August, 1993, from a field of 45 candidates.  He came to the job with 18 years experience as principal for Holland Public Schools at the elementary, junior high and high school levels. He also taught for one year in Holland and two years in Indiana.

Feenstra's accomplishments here are many, including expansion to two high schools; passage of five bond issues; launching of Spanish and art in the elementary grades; creation of the stringed instrument program and the Zeeland Education Foundation; and all "A's" from the state for Zeeland's 10 schools.
