Volunteers Needed for Fall Community Tulip Planting Day

News Release:

The Tulip Time Festival, together with the City of Holland Parks Department, will host a Community Tulip Planting Day on October 15, 2011 at Window on the Waterfront Park, located on 6th Street between Columbia and College Avenues, from 8:00 AM -12:30 PM. Rain date will be October 22, 2011, same time and place. Volunteers are needed for the 10:30 AM -12:30 PM shift.

Each fall the City of Holland plants over 300,000 tulip bulbs throughout downtown Holland, city parks, and Tulip Lanes. The Community Planting Day Volunteers will help plant 50,000 tulip bulbs at Window on the Waterfront Park. The Tulip Time Festival Board and Staff have assisted the Parks Department in planting bulbs for several years. Last year we offered the entire community the opportunity to get more involved, and because of its success, we are inviting the community to once again help us prepare for the 2012 Tulip Time Festival.

All ages are encouraged to sign up. Bring the entire family. There will be refreshments, door prizes and children's activities. Children 10 years of age and under will have a special job planting tulip pots that will be used during the festival to decorate parade floats, event stages, and displays throughout the city. Dress for the weather, bring your green thumbs and gardening gloves. The Parks Department will supply the bulbs and necessary tools for planting.

This is a great way to get involved with the festival. And, in the spring, you can show off the tulips you planted by bringing your friends and family back to see them in full bloom!

Volunteers should contact Shannon Yanek, Volunteer Coordinator at shannon@tuliptime.com or 616.396.4221 x108.
