ZEELAND, Mich.— A cool new attraction is making a splash in Zeeland.

City leaders will celebrate the grand opening of the Zeeland Splash Pad Monday, July 28 by handing out free frozen treats to the first 1,000 guests.  The Splash Bash will also include live music by Cos & Cos on the site’s new stage and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. before city leaders turn on the water.

Zeeland Marketing Director Abby DeRoo says the concept for the splash pad began forming approximately three years ago.  Fundraising started last year and construction began in spring.

The site also features a fireplace and restrooms. The splash pad park will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day.

Approximately $10,000 in donations are still needed to pay off the $475,000 project.  The Splash Pad Fundraising Committee will be on site during the grand opening selling donor bricks, starting at $201. You can also find a donor form on the city's website.

The Splash Bash will coincide with Zeelmania on Main and Elm streets.  The July 28 lineup includes an aerial circus, inflatable bounce house, healthy taste testing, face painting, crafts and vendors.
