My Town: Green thumbs encouraged to 'Plant a Row for the Hungry'

HOLLAND, Mich.—Gardening season is here, and green thumbs in the Holland and Zeeland communities are encouraged to add an extra row of plants for the hungry.

The Ottawa County Food Policy Council is launching the “Plant a Row for the Hungry” campaign to encourage community gardeners to grow a row of fruits, vegetables and herbs for those in need.  When harvest season arrives, these giving green thumbs can then drop off designated produce to any of the following participating pantries:

  • Community Action House- 345 W. 14th St., Holland
  • His Harvest Stand- 100 Pine Street, Zeeland
  • Local Adult Foster Care Homes in Holland

The Plant a Row for the Hungry campaign began in 1995 as a way to provide more nutritious options to people in need.  All produce donations are tax deductible.
