Holland and Zeeland Chambers are planning to merge

The Holland and Zeeland Chambers have decided to move ahead to merge the two organizations.  The following statement was released today (December 12) by the two chambers.

In November of 2011, the Boards of Directors for both the Holland and Zeeland Chambers unanimously approved this statement:

The Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and Zeeland Chamber of Commerce will move ahead with continuous due diligence drafting bylaws for a united organization of both Chambers of Commerce.  Bylaws will be written subject to approval by each board of directors.

For the past 24 months, the boards of the Zeeland and Holland Chambers have been reviewing ways to engage in collaborative efforts to create synergy and greater value for their members.  A Collaboration Committee, with representation from both organizations, has been meeting regularly to discuss the process and look for outcomes to benefit members.  S

Breakfast with Congressman Huizenga

The Holland and Zeeland Chambers of Commerce are hosting a breakfast with Congressman Bill Huizenga, who represents Michigan’s 2nd District.  The breakfast is scheduled on Monday, December 19 from 7:30am to 9:30am at Evergreen Commons at 480 State Street in Holland.  Huizenga will give updates on what is going on in Washington, D.C., reveal his plans for the upcoming year, and answer questions from participants.

The 2nd Congressional District runs along the lakeshore and covers nine counties, including Ottawa, Muskego and Oceana, and portions of two counties - Kent and Allegan.

HOLLAND - Ryan Core and Scott Brandonisio, who are junior engineering students at Hope and were participants in the Hope Entrepreneurship Initiative (HEI) 2011 Summer Fellowship Program, are among the select number of young entrepreneurs competing this week in the student component of the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, billed as the world's largest business competition.

Core's and Brandonisio's company, CS Industries LLC, has been developing an extremely comfortable light and sound-cancelling headband as a sleeping device, with a variety of applications.

Annual holiday Open House marks beginning of Holland holiday season


Downtown Holland will mark the beginning of the holiday season with their annual Holiday Open House event this Saturday, November 19 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  In addition to the Holiday Open House, a variety of fun holiday happenings for the entire family will take place in Downtown Holland from November to January.
During the Holiday Open House, visitors are invited to stroll the decorated streets filled with singing carolers, roasting chestnuts, and one-of-a-kind shops, galleries, boutiques and restaurants all offering holiday refreshments and free gift-wrapping on all purchases. With close to 50 different merchants participating, you are almost certain to spot Santa picking up a few special items for those on his “nice” list while he hands out candy canes.

Chef Container Announces Building Expansion Ground Breaking

Holland, MI - November 11, 2011 - Chef Container, LLC announces the expansion efforts of their Westshore Recycling and Transfer Station located just outside Holland , MI in Allegan County. Based on the company's growth predictions and the needs of local recycling along the lakeshore, the building expansion will triple the size of the current facility from 6,400 sq. feet to over 27,000 sq. feet. This expansion is estimated to create up to ten (10) new jobs within the Westshore facility.

Chef Container was originally founded in 2002 and was focused on providing advanced recycling within the solid waste marketplace. With the construction of the original Westshore Recycling & Transfer facility in 2004, Chef Container, LLC was able to secure contracts with several municipalities to include: The City of Holland, The City of Saugatuck, The Township of Laketown and the County of Allegan's recycling collection depots.
