An Old-Fashioned Barn Raising in Holland

An Old-Fashioned Barn Raising in Holland

by Stephanie Doublestein

Don Trizenberg, a Holland retiree, has been spending many of his balmy summer evenings drinking lemonade in people’s backyards. He’s not just a friendly neighbor; he’s the vice chairman of the Holland Sustainability Commission, and he’s trying to discuss the city’s ambitious Community Energy Plan with as much of the community as possible.

The CEP, generated at the request of the city council with significant input from international consultants Garforth & Associates, was finalized and presented in September 2011, though that was by no means the end of the story. The document, a thick stack of graphs, tables, projections and recommendations, has sparked an important conversation about the future of Holland’s energy use.

ITB offers sustainable packaging solution

ITB offers sustainable packaging solution

HOLLAND — A Holland manufacturing startup has taken the international packaging industry by storm creating an eco-friendly divider that’s generating as much buzz in the business as bubble wrap did a half century ago.

ITB Packaging LLC — the original name was The Box Packaging — makes lower cost, flexible package dividers made of paper, fabric and bubble wrap, but not cardboard. The end result is more products can be packed in boxes that weigh less.

Depending on the shipping container, paper dividers can add 10 to 20 percent more product per box and fabric dividers can add up to 40 percent more pieces. The weight of the dividers is also about 50 percent less than with cardboard.

More products and less shipping weight have resulted in big cost savings for Johnson Controls Inc., said North American Packaging Buyer Dave Colclough.

I have tried going to a couple places like Judes and Great Clips to get my hair cut and each time I walk out of there I'm not happy. I have actually had poeple tell be to go right back there and have them fix it. This got me to thinking; I am seeing all these places geared towards men's hair cuts and was wondering if  they are all barber shops. Apperently thats not the case. I had the opportunity to speak with a real barber; Zach Booker owner of Zach's Barber shop who is a fourth generation hair business owner and is a Master Barber. He also owns Booker Barber College in Holland.

So I asked a couple question:
