My Town: State Representative Amanda Price tours Careerline Tech Center

State Representative Amanda Price (R) visited Careerline Tech Center (CTC) in Holland February 9 and toured some of the 26 career pathways taught at the state-of-the-art facility that helps students prepare for their future. Representative Price is the current chair of the House Education Committee for the 98th Legislature.

“Representative Price enjoyed seeing first-hand our students’ technical skills and the quality instruction provided by our teachers,” Dave Searles, director for Careerline Tech Center, said. “With the enthusiasm of our students and staff it’s always exciting to showcase our facility.”

Representative Price toured the recently updated culinary and pastry arts laboratory, visual communications, engineering/welding, environmental and agricultural sciences, emergency medical services and auto mechanics programs. While touring the Visual Communications program, Representative Price was presented with a student designed t-shirt that was given as a prize to North American International Auto Show attendees.

“It was a privilege to show Representative Price how Careerline Tech Center prepares Ottawa area students for a variety of careers after high school including the skilled trades,” said Val Putnam, assistant superintendent for career/technical education and adult learning, for OAISD. “With the Governor’s recent budget increase in funding for skilled trades training and technical education, we are excited to prepare students for careers that will help grow Michigan’s economy.”

After spending over two hours exploring Careerline Tech Center and speaking with staff and students, Representative Price commented, “I was impressed with the wide range of programs available to our young people at the OAISD. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

A service of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, Careerline Tech Center prepares high school juniors and seniors for tomorrow's workforce by providing career and technical education for employment and post-secondary opportunities while promoting life-long learning and personal success. www.oaisd.org/ctc
