My Town Holland: New Holland riding the wave of beer industry boom

HOLLAND, Mich.—A Holland brewery is riding the wave of popularity for the beer industry.

Newly released numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau find the number of U.S breweries more than doubled between 2007 and 2012, from 398 to 869.

With the rise in demand, New Holland Brewing Co. recently expanded distribution to New England.  The brewery celebrated its growing footprint in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island last month.  L. Knife & Son companies are partnering with the brewery for the distribution expansion.

According to the Census Bureau, in 2012, the beer industry employed 26,077 people, up from 22,252 in 2007; however the average number of employees per business was nearly halved and payroll per employee changed little.
