GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Despite the harsh winter, a Grand Rapids-based food delivery business is celebrating record growth.

Doorganics recently added another delivery van to its fleet to accommodate a record high number of organic food deliveries last month; nearly quadruple the number of orders it filled the previous year.

“This has been a very challenging winter to run a delivery-based business,” says Mike Hughes, owner of Doorganics. “Our delivery van has been pulled out of snow banks and we’ve had to increase our hours to keep deliveries running, but we are thrilled to be staying this busy to serve our largest customer base yet.”

Hughes credits word of mouth and a new online shopping system for the company’s growth.

Doorganics began offering organic food delivery service in 2011.  Since then, the company has expanded its service to the lakeshore, adding another delivery day to customers and businesses in Holland and Hudsonville.  Doorganics credits its partnership with Herman Miller for boosting lakeshore service.

Doorganics also recently marked a milestone for the community, delivering nearly 20,000 pounds of fresh organic fruit and vegetables to God’s Kitchen in Grand Rapids.

“We cannot do without the support of our community,” says Rob Miller, Director of God’s Kitchen, “With Doorganics providing us bags of fresh fruits and vegetables, the better and healthier our entire community becomes.”
