HOLLAND, Mich.-- Good Samaritan Ministries and Keller Williams Realty Lakeshore are proud to announce the Closer to Home fundraising project.

This initiative is designed to raise funds and awareness for those seeking sustainable, long-term housing solutions. Good Samaritan Ministries receives 300-400 calls per month from people facing a housing crisis.

"The Closer to Home project will help people in crisis overcome barriers and put them in a better position for homeownership," says  Linda Jacobs, Good Samaritan Ministries' executive director.

Keller Williams has generously kicked off the Closer to Home fundraising project with a donation of $1,000 to Good Samaritan Ministries. With this seed money, Good Samaritan Ministries and Keller Williams are reaching out to all realtors in the community to do the same.  If each brokerage firm in the greater Holland area matched Keller Williams' donation, Good Samaritan Ministries could raise significant funds to help make our community and neighborhoods stronger.

"We see value in this project both as residents and as realtors. By assisting potential homeowners to realize their dreams of owning a home - not only do we make this a better community with thriving neighborhoods - but we create a sustainable housing market that is competitive and fair," said Doug Klaasen, Keller Williams Realty lakeshore broker.

Good Samaritan Ministries' mission is to end poverty and homelessness in the greater Holland/Zeeland area and it is doing so through a number of successful programs including:

Affordable Housing Connections: The central intake point for anyone in Ottawa County who is experiencing a housing crisis.

Neighborhood Connections: Building strong neighborhoods where people work together and use their talents to improve the quality of life for themselves and their community.

Circles: A national program that improves household economic security through education, resource assistance and peer support.

Philip L. Meyer, City of Holland Community and Neighborhood Services Director, recognizes the value of Good Samaritan Ministries, commenting that "Neighborhood Connections has been a leader in Holland in building community first by building relationships and by defining the special assets that neighborhood residents, churches, businesses and other institutions have to offer."

Individuals and other businesses are invited to participate in the Closer to Home project by donating to Good Samaritan Ministries. For more information or if you want to donate online, visit www.GoodSamMinistries.com or http://www.goodsamministries.com/Web/whats_new.asp
