Marathon Reading Scheduled of “The Fellowship of the Ring”

HOLLAND – The department of English at Hope College will sponsor a marathon reading of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring” in the college’s Pine Grove on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25.

The reading will extend from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, and from 10 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

All are welcome to sign up for 10-minute reading slots, either in advance at the department of English, located on the third floor of Lubbers Hall, or at the event itself if slots are still available.

“The reading is an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy together a great literary classic,” said Dr. Curtis Gruenler, associate professor of English, who is currently teaching a course titled “J. R. R.

Volunteers Needed for Fall Tulip Bulb Planting Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOLLAND, MI – September 15, 2010, The Tulip Time Festival, in conjunction with the City of Holland Parks Department, will host a “Tulip Bulb Planting Day” on October 16, 2010 at Window on the Waterfront Park, located on 6th Street between Columbia and College Avenues, from 8am-12:30pm.  Rain date will be October 23, 2010, same time and place. Volunteers will be needed in two shifts 8am-10am and 10:30am-12:30pm.

Crane’s In The City Restaurant will provide snacks and beverages for all volunteers from 10am-10:30am and a Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener will also be on hand to provide educational resources and answer general tulip planting questions. Jonker’s Garden will be donating prizes for volunteers.
