International Relations Commission Will Host 3rd Annual Multicultural Festival on May 21st | Arts & Culture
You’re invited to celebrate the global, multicultural diversity of Holland!
The “International Relations Commission Festival: Celebrating Our Multicultural Connections” will be held on May 21, 2011 at Kollen Park, 240 Kollen Park Blvd, Holland, MI 49423 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Holland Youth Advisory Council will be showing “The Karate Kid” in the bandshell outdoors at dusk. Admission is FREE.
This is a family event coordinated by the City of Holland International Relations Commission (IRC). The mission of the IRC is to promote international and cross-cultural knowledge, awareness, understanding, and sensitivity through interactions within the community and across borders. This year’s festival offers a full entertainment lineup, various ethnic food booths, children's activities, and outdoor movie! The event began in the South Shore Village Business District and is going on its third year and is made possible by generous donations from Haworth Inc., City of Holland International Relations Commission, and Interfaith Congregation.
Enjoy various performances on stage from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., including live bands, dance, vocal groups, and storytellers. Maciek’s Magic Show will perform from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. There will be a balloon artist, face painting, crafts, children’s story time, Holland Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Trailer, piñata, and other children’s activities and information from local non-profit organizations!
Delicious Mexican, African-American, and Laos food will be available for purchase from Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant, Jus’ Ribs, Daddio’s, and Laos Christian Reformed Church. The Las Comadritas women’s support group from the Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center will be selling homemade crafts, such as piñatas, jewelry, metalwork, purses, and knit baby clothes.
To top off the event The Karate Kid will be showing at dusk in the bandshell, hosted by the Holland Youth Advisory Council and made possible by generous donations from Robert DeNooyer Chevrolet and McDonald’s/Milagro Six, Inc. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Concessions will be available to help raise funds for future outdoor summer movies.
