My Town Holland: Park Theatre renovation project now in Phase One

HOLLAND, Mich.--  Phase One of the plan to revamp the historic Park Theatre is now underway.

Last month, more than 90 people attended the Park Theatre Foundation’s Clean Slate Party, held inside the downtown Holland venue.  Foundation Board President Bob Schulze introduced plans to renovate the aging facility and encouraged visitors to share their ideas for bringing Park Theatre into a new century.

"By renovating the Park Theatre we will create a radically open, fiscally sustainable, multi-use platform for Holland and surrounding community members to create and celebrate culture.  Imagine what a revamped Park Theatre could offer: music, independent film series; dinner theatre/movies; children's programming; lecture and comedy series; and more.  This will be a wonderful resource for ages 8 to 80 for Holland and surrounding communities," Schulze said.

As part of Phase One of the project, the Park Theatre Foundation hopes to raise $15,000 in seed money to begin the theatre design and plan development process.   The foundation hopes to begin Phase Two later this year,  which includes raising $2 million for actual renovations and a building addition.

Park Theatre continues to host a variety of artists. During the 2014 Tulip Time Festival, the sound of big band swing will fill the venue. The theatre will welcome Jars of Clay on June 18 and award-winning singer/songwriter Judy Collins will take the stage October 16.

Community members who would like to support the Park Theatre renovations can make a tax-deductible donation online on the theatre’s website or send a check to the Park Theatre Foundation, PO Box 1933, Holland, MI, 49422-1933.
