GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Time is running out to register for the upcoming Meijer Great Choices Student Film Festival.

The competition is designed for Michigan high school student filmmakers to showcase their talents.  Students are asked to produce a 30 second public service announcement promoting building character, healthy lifestyles or celebrating diversity.  Filmmakers are asked to target one of two audiences: kindergarten through 6th grade students or 7th through 12th grade students.  The winning work will be used in classrooms.

The deadline for submitting a PSA is Feb. 7, 2014 with a $10 registration fee; students who submit an entry by Jan. 17 pay only $5 for registration.  For more information on the Meijer Great Choices Student Film Festival, visit the competition website here.

A panel of students and professors from Compass College of Cinematic Arts, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, and Western Michigan University will pick the finalists.  The top three winners in each category will receive gift cards ranging from $500 to $2,000 during a reception in June 2014 at Celebration Cinema North.

The Meijer Great Choices Film Festival is made possible by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Chemical Bank,  The Vander Laan Family Foundation, Van Singel Fine Arts Center and Celebration Cinema and Meijer.

The festival’s Legacy Partners also created a K-8 Junior Film Competition; for more information visit www.meijergreatchoices.com
