West Michigan's own Iron Chef competition unfolds September 24

You don’t have to switch your TV to the Food Network tonight to catch an Iron Chef competition.

Eight teams of student chefs will try to out-cook one another Tuesday, September 24 during the 2013 Cascade Iron Chef competition.   Chefs from the Grand Rapids Community College Secchia Institute for Culinary Education will prepare gourmet cuisine using the "secret ingredient" for a chance to take home the iron skillet award and a college scholarship.  WZZM 13’s Valerie Lego will emcee the competition, which will be judged by a panel of local celebrities.  The judging panel includes:

  • Tommy Brann of Brann Restaurants
  • Lew Chamberlain of the West Michigan Whitecaps
  • Joe Borello of Tasters Guild
  • Jay Beeler, food and travel author
  • Chris Freeman of EatGR on Facebook
  • Chuck Cox of Northern Jet Management

The competition begins at 6:30 p.m. inside the Northern Jet Management facility, located at 5500 44th St. SE in building 203.  Tickets are $75 per person or $125 per a couple and are available on the Cascade Community Foundation’s website.
