UPDATE: Police say two women stabbed each other in fight over a man | News
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Detectives say two women who stabbed each other in a fight at a Holland Township party were fighting over a man.
It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 1500 block of Center Street.
Deputies say a large crowd of people were at the home when two women started fighting. Both ended up stabbing each other.
A 20-year-old woman from Holland was stabbed five times, and was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Detectives say the woman suffered a collapsed lung, but is expected to survive.
A 22-year-old woman from Kalamazoo was treated and released from Holland Community Hospital.
Deputies are not releasing the women's names, but say one of the women was involved in a relationship with the man at the center of the dispute. The other woman was the man's ex-girlfriend.
Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says detectives have had trouble piecing together the events leading up to the stabbings because witnesses are not very cooperative. Many potential witnesses also left the scene before the first deputies arrived at the home Sunday night.
Bennett says some of the people at the party had gang affiliations.
Detectives say they will hand over the results of their investigation to the Ottawa County Prosecutor, who will determine if any charges will be filed.
