Holland Farmers Market announces results of The Carve III

A total of 26 student carvers entered into the first-ever U.S. National Collegiate Carving Competition for fruits and vegetables at the Holland Farmers Market, making works of art using fresh ingredients from the Market.  In addition, 9 contestants entered the People’s Choice competition to see who could create a carving a cut above the rest and win the most votes from the public.
Cavers entered the competition from across the country and participated in three separate events, including the compulsory event, the singles event, and the team event. The works of art were judged by a team of professionals on first-impression, utilization of fruits and vegetables, detail and knife skills, use of color, structure, and creativity and artistic impression.
The panel of judges included Food Network Champion Chef Doug St. Souver, Jeff Petercsak of the National Ice Carving Association (NICA), Greg Butauski and Trey Justice of Rock On Ice/Art The Experience, and Nita Gill of Nita’s Fruit and Vegetable Carving in Solana Beach, California.  The top three college individuals and college team winners were awarded with carving tools, while the top three People’s Choice winners, and the top four over-all college teams that had the highest combine total scores were awarded cash prizes.
