Haveman sworn in for second term, receives committee assignments

News Release:

LANSING, Mich. - State Rep. Joe Haveman, R-Holland, was sworn into office at the Capitol today at noon, officially taking his place as a member of the 96th state legislature, representing Michigan's 90th House District.

This is Haveman's second term in the state House. His wife Kim joined him today at the ceremony. Following seat selection, the newly elected Speaker of the House gave a brief speech.

"The Speaker definitely set the tone for the year. His best line was 'long term gains with short term pains,'" Haveman said. "I think both sides are ready to buckle down and work together."

Committee assignments were also distributed today. Haveman was placed on the Energy and Technology Committee and will serve as vice chair of the Appropriations Committee. Within Appropriations, he will act as chair of the Corrections subcommittee.

"I am thrilled with my committee assignments. Corrections is one of the biggest line items in the general budget and I look forward to working with the new leadership in that department," Haveman said.
