Chorale's 51st season kicks off with 'Sing Me The Universal!'

The Holland Chorale and Artistic Director Ryan Kelly announce an exciting roster of concerts for the 2010-2011 subscription year, including seasonal concerts spiced with world music, the much-loved Holiday Celebration Concert with the Holland Symphony Orchestra, and a community preview of the music to be featured in the Chorale's 2011 trip to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall.

Season tickets, single tickets and brochures are available from the Chorale office by phoning (616) 494-0256, the website at www.hollandchorale.org and by mail or in person at 150 East 8th Street, Holland, MI 49423.

The four season subscription concerts include Sing Me the Universal!, Holiday Celebration Concert with the Holland Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Preview, and Mass in Time of War. Adults are $60, seniors are $50, and families (up to two adults and two children) are $120.  Single tickets are also available for each of the subscription concerts at $17 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $5 for children. Tickets purchased by the Wednesday prior to a concert (excluding the Holiday Concert) receive a $2 discount per ticket.

The season opens Saturday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the West Ottawa Performing Arts Center with Sing Me the Universal!, a performance of rhythmic, colorful world music centered around Glenn McClure's St. Francis in the Americas: A Caribbean Mass. Accompanied by steel drum band, this vibrant work is sure to inspire. The Chorale will also premiere their 2010 commission, a new SATB gospel work by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory titled Lay Earth's Burden Down. Joining the Holland Chorale will be the choirs of Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville, directed by Judy Roelofs.

Next up on Saturday, December 11, at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Hope College's Dimnent Chapel is the Chorale's annual Holiday Celebration Concert with the Holland Symphony Orchestra.  This combined splendor of voices and orchestra will include Old World carols, exotic Christmas selections, and festive favorites highlighted by the Chorale and Orchestra's Michigan premiere of Gwyneth Walkers Star of Night. The concert will be conducted by Ryan Kelly and Johannes Müller-Stosch.

The turn of the year finds the Chorale at Hamilton High School Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. for their winter concert, Carnegie Preview.  If you can't travel to New York to hear the Chorale's Carnegie Hall debut, come to this community perfoRmance of their solo concert program. Choral classics by Brahms and Schubert will be performed along with recent works by Hennagin, Ellingboe, and Pfautsch. Highlighted will be Paul Halley's dazzling Voices of Light for chorus and flute. Joining the Holland Chorale for this concert will be the choirs of Hamilton High School, directed by Holly Israels.

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in Zeeland Performing Arts Center, Artistic Director Ryan Kelly will lead the Chorale and festival orchestra in its final regular season concert for a performance of Joseph Haydn's Mass in Time of War. The Mass is most renowned for how it expresses sacred reverence with militaristic drive. Also on the program will be Samuel Barber's beloved Adagio for Strings and Ralph Vaughan Williams' glorious setting of Walt Whitman poetry in Toward the Unknown Region.

Artistic Director Ryan Kelly extends his wishes for the community to be part of what he calls a 'milestone season' for the Chorale.  "Soul-stirring performances inspire only those who hear them, so come hear us," Kelly says.  "Get season tickets, bring someone you love, and hear what people will be talking about in New York City."
